Knights of Columbus
Monsignor John Canepa Council # 5164
The Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest fraternal service organization, and we are proud to have our own council at St. Barnabas, with a corresponding ladies’ auxiliary. The group meets ordinarily on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. For more information, contact Mr. David Renda at 205-833-0334.

Ladies’ Altar Sodality
The Ladies’ Altar Sodality works to maintain a decorous and beautiful environment in our church sanctuary by purchasing the needed linens, altar servers’ garments, and other items for our liturgical worship. They clean the church in preparation for the feast of Christmas, and also sponsor social activities in the community. For more information about the Sodality, please contact Ms. Alice Carter, the parish secretary, at 205-833-0334, in order to be referred to the appropriate Sodality member.

Food Pantry
The Food Pantry collects and distributes food and clothing to the needy of the parish. It is open on Wednesdays and is always in need of additional volunteers to help collect, organize, and distribute donations. If you are interested in helping, please contact Mr. David Renda at 205-833-0334. To donate to the Food Pantry, please visit our Giving Page.

Altar Servers
To serve at the altar a child must have at least completed his or her First Holy Communion and be an active member of the parish (i.e., regular attendance at Sunday and Holy Day Masses). Service at the altar was traditionally reserved to boys, giving them the needed space to see up-close what a priest does and consider whether they might be called to the same vocation. This process of discernment is necessary for every Catholic boy. In more recent times, service at the altar has been opened also to girls at the discretion of the pastor. At St. Barnabas we have both boy and girl altar servers. It remains preferable and desirable to have boy servers to facilitate their discernment (especially since discernment of the priesthood is not a possibility for girls), but servers of both sexes are permitted. If you are interested in having your child serve, please contact the Administrator, Fr. George Maniangattu.

Those who undertake this important service care for the sacred linens, sacred vestments, sacred vessels, and other items used in connection with our liturgical worship. Training is provided to all who volunteer for this position. If you would like to be considered for service as a sacristan, please contact the Administrator, Fr. George Maniangattu.

Finance Council
The Parish Finance Council is a consultative body required by the Code of Canon Law, which aids the pastor or administrator in the administration of the parish’s temporal goods (finances, property, other resources). Finance Council members are chosen by the pastor or administrator from among those parishioners who are known for their integrity of morals, expertise or prudence in financial matters, and knowledge of parish affairs. Among the tasks of the Council, besides a regular general review of receipts and expenditures, is to assist in the annual budgeting process and also draw up an annual financial report.
